Being and Becoming
Everybody's talking about "being" and "becoming"
I'm sitting here, not knowing am I goin' or comin'..
I stop and stare and think and wonder what life's become
What could have been, and what's left for me to become
Is it to be a son?
To be the only one?
How could it be,
Aint life but a dream?
How could you see,
What could become of me,
All that I knew,
Has gone up in smoke
Those that know me
Think I'm half a joke
Although I found one yoke
And took it right to pieces
Those that still wear it proudly
Don't like a son who teaches
I aint no teacher,
You better believe
Of those who would learn
It goes like a sieve
I aint had a chance,
The right thing to do
Until one day I fell out of my saddle
Right into you
A Little Bit of Beautiful Tension
A little bit of conversation, a little more action
This is the extent of my interaction
With the king
I aint seen nobody's face cept those I've seen
Tell you something,
Life aint nothing but a dream (I think..)
Two in the face, that'll get you right quick!
One in the face, you're down and done
By the second one comes, already numb
I've looked and stared in my little rear view
Some things, were not meant for two
Through the roller and the coaster
Life's hardly but the scene
But when the cat's gone to bed
At least he can maybe dream
Man in the Middle
Man in the middle, gotta change his face
Some say you gotta have a family with three kids
To be one in the middle (don't get me started on a family with 4..)
I say, aint always true
Look at you
Caught in the middle, gotta find a way through
Stuck between dreaming and preaching,
Stuck between piety and absurdity
Caught between the rafters, hung outside to dry
I've looked and looked and I aint find nothing fly (to wear.. not that I should care!)
I'm supposed to be the big man, head of the house-hold
Truly, that was just another lie
A big fat can of rye
Those with the power
Do not let go easi-ly
Those with the control
Do not relin-quish-at-ease
Till the day's done and the night's still young
You'll find yourself with nothing but a dream..
